It's a blend of reggaeton and pop, which was not just a new ear to reggaeton music, but also more interest in Latin music. The Billboard Top 100 featured two songs in Spanish most of the time, and 4 more songs in the year 2016. The Despacito album reached its peak success in 2017, 19 tracks primarily made in Spanish reached within the top 100. This figure grew to 41 by 2020. Justin Bieber's bilingual remake of Despacito came out in the year 2017. Then, popular artists started collaborating with reggaeton artists. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny for MIA (2018) while Madonna was a part of Maluma on Medellin. Some reggaeton artists were unhappy about the trend toward popular music coming into 2020. But a new group, Rauw alejandro, was trying to change the course. His music often contained elements from electronic dance and other genres.
